David Metcalf, Ph.D.

David Metcalf, Ph.D., is a Senior Researcher and Director Mixed Emerging Technology Integration Lab (METIL), Institute for Simulation & Training.

Dr. Metcalf’s METIL lab explores leading edge innovations in learning. Specific areas of focus include learning business strategy, performance measurement, operational excellence, outsourcing, blended learning, games/sims and mobile learning. As a researcher, analyst and consultant, Dr. Metcalf has been a leader in the learning and development space for more than 15 years, developing over 500 online courses and multimillion dollar projects. Dr. Metcalf formerly was the Chief Learning Technologist at RWD Technologies. He joined RWD with the sale of his NASA Kennedy Space Center laboratory spin-off company, Merrimac. Prior to spin-off, he was the Lead Multimedia Designer at NASA KSC.

Dr. Metcalf holds a B.A. in Art/Computer Graphics from the University of Texas, an M.S. in Computer-based Learning and his Ph.D. in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University. He keeps current by continuing to hold appointments at several universities, including Walden University’s Knowledge and Learning Management doctoral program.
He is a frequent speaker at major learning and development conferences around the world. His first book on mobile learning applications with emphasis on corporate uses has been in significant demand.
